Documents, videos and pictures evidence have been disclosed for the prosecution of two domestic workers of a former minister of State, Cecilia Abena Dapaah and five others. These pieces of evidence were disclosed by the Attorney-General’s (A-G) office for the prosecution of Patience Botwe, Sarah Agyei, Benjamin Sowah, Malik Dauda, Christiana Achab, Job Pomary and Yahaya Sumaila.
Leading the prosecution team on behalf of the State, Akosua Agyepomaa Agyemang told the Accra High Court, presided over by Justice Marie-Louise Simmons on Friday that two batches of disclosures had been filed.
The first batch of disclosure was filed on January 16, 2024 while the second was on February 2, 2024 for which the prosecution was ready for Case Management Conference (CMC).
However, whilst two of the defence lawyers informed the court that the processes had not been served on them, three said otherwise.
Meanwhile, the court has granted the prosecution application for the accused persons to be sent to prison custody, following their inability to meet bail conditions.
Apart from Sarah, who is still breastfeeding a nine-month-old baby, Patience, Benjamin Sowah, Malik Dauda, Christiana Achab, Job Pomary and Yahaya Sumaila have been remanded into prison custody.
They are charged with conspiracy to steal, stealing, dishonestly receiving and money laundering.
Senior State Attorney (SSA) Agyepomaa further applied for a restricting order to bar the accused persons from disposing of their properties.
Lawyers for the accused persons have mounted a defence that all the bail terms were met, but the police investigator is rather the challenge.
The court was told that the individuals procured to stand sureties for the accused persons are bail contractors, hence the refusal. The case has been adjourned to March 15.
Background
Patience and Sarah, 18 and 30, were domestic workers of Madam Cecilia, a former water and sanitation minister.
The former minister, who resigned due to publication of the theft case in her house, allegedly had monies and properties running into millions of cedis stolen from her house.
