Asokwa MCE breaks ground for construction of 620-metre road

The Asokwa Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Chief Akwannuasah Gyimah, and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa, Madam Patricia Appiagyei, jointly cut the sod for the construction of a 620-metre road linking Old Ahinsan to the Ahinsan Estate community.

The ground-breaking ceremony was witnessed by the chiefs of Asokwa and Ahinsan.

The road project comes under the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme by the World Bank.

The Asokwa Municipality, as well as 34 other Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), qualified for the award of the projects in Ghana due to their prudent and transparent administrative environment.

The MCE said besides the road construction the Asokwa Municipal Assembly was also a beneficiary of a three storey facility named the Asokwa Town Center under Phase Three of the Secondary Cities Project.

The Asokwa Town Center project comprises a 200-seater conference hall, banking halls and offices to be rented out upon completion, so that the Assembly could use funds from it to augment its internally generated funds (IGF).

Mr. Frank Ofosuhene, Project Manager for Avangarde Designs, Consultants for the project, commended the Asokwa Assembly and the Chiefs of Ahinsan for honouring their part to ensure the commencement of the project.

He stated that the road project comprised the construction of drains on the sides, road markings, as well as street lights, adding that the contractor, M-Gyebi Construction Limited, had promised to ensure the road was tarred to the level comparable to any good road elsewhere.

The consultant hinted that the road project and the construction of the office complex would be completed in nine months.

Mr. Ofosuhene, however, stated that in further discussions, the contractor had assured that by the end of December the road would be opened for commercial use to ease traffic on the main Asokwa-Atonsu highway.

He urged the Assembly and chiefs of Ahinsan to continue to engage residents against engaging in activities that generate saw dust near the project site in order to prolong the lifespan of the road.

The Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Madam Patricia Appiagyei, commended the Assembly staff and the Members for working tirelessly to secure the Secondary Cities Support Programme which, she noted, would help to hasten the pace of development for Asokwa and the residents.

“As MP for Asokwa, I promise to continue my efforts of lobbying for more projects to Asokwa, so that all communities within the Municipality can get equal share of development,” the MP stated.

Nana Dwumah Ankoana II, Ahinsan Chief, commended the MCE and MP for their roles and efforts in securing the Secondary Cities Project.

He said the construction of the Ahinsan road would help to increase commercial activities and mobility and create jobs for the youth.

At the sod cutting ceremony were the Regent of Asokwa, Nana Fe-Bamoah, and chiefs from other communities, Asokwa Assembly members, as well as political heads and New Patriotic Party MP aspirants, including Edmund Kyei and Dr. Nana Yaw Boakye.
