Briefing the media at the Regional Police Headquarters at Bekwai in the Ashanti Region yesterday, the Regional Commander, DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaabah, said on July 9, 2026 at about 2 am, the Obuasi District Police received a distress call to the effect that a group of young men, led by Seidu Masawudu, wielding firearms and cutlasses had attacked one Abdul Jabal Suleman and inflicted wounds on him.

He said on receipt of the complaint the police dispatched a team of operation men to the scene of the crime, but the suspects had bolted.

The Commander said the police team proceeded to the AngloGold Ashanti Health Foundation, where the victim had been rushed for medical attention, but he was confirmed dead by the medical officer on duty.

The Regional Commander said a thorough investigation led to the police stumbling upon intelligence that the leader had taken refuge at Bongo, near Bolgatanga, in the Upper East Region.

He said subsequently on July 11, 2026 the police mounted an operation in the suspect’s hideout and arrested him, together with his 22-year-old girlfriend who comes from Tweapease, near Obuasi.

The Commander said during interrogation, the suspect, Marshall, mentioned his accomplices and claiming that the incident was the outcome of gang rivalry.

He stated that the police are currently on the heels of the remaining members of the gang and assured that, before long they would also be brought to book, adding that suspect Marshall is going to be put before court immediately.

The Regional Commander said the police were committed to creating a conducive and congenial atmosphere for the good people of the region to go about their socio-economic activities without fear.

He further stated that the video making rounds in the social media where a man is being battered, and someone attempting to cut off his ear does not represent the case the Ashanti South Police Command is handling.
