Ashanti Region benefits from MTN technology upgrade

The Ashanti Region has benefitted from MTN’s technology upgrade under its expansion programme.

Forty nine out of the 61 new cell sites being constructed in the region for 2023 have been commissioned for the upgrade.

Mr. Dickson Amoung-yam, Regional Technical Manager of MTN, disclosed this at this year’s edition of Media and Stakeholders Forum in Kumasi, and said the Ashanti Region currently boasts of 803 4G cell sites, 807 3G sites, and 807 2G sites to boost voice calls.

According to him, 77 communities would benefit from the Rural Community Technology project, which supports voice and 3G data.

The Technical Manager, however, complained about fibre cuts which adversely affected the operations of the company.

He said, in 2022, MTN suffered 442 fibre cuts in the region against 284 cuts recorded as at May 2023.

Mr. Amoung-yam identified the major causes of the fibre cuts as being road and drainage construction, activities of private developers, vandalism, floods, fire and activities of the utility services.

He, therefore, appealed to all stakeholders, especially the media, to continue to help in educating Ghanaians to stop or reduce the incidences.
