The Ashanti Regional branch of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has registered 1,484,174 subscribers in excess of its target to commemorate the birth month of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, Mr. Muniru Muntaka Mohammed, the Ashanti Regional Manager of the Authority, disclosed this at a press briefing in Kumasi.
He said the Authority exceeded its target of registering one million people for the month of May.
According to him, the initiative was aimed at expressing appreciation to the Asantehene for his outstanding leadership, for which the month of May was declared a month of registration, to add one million members to the scheme.
He announced that as at 31st May, 2026 a total of 1,484,174 members had been registered, comprising 51,976 new members and 1,432,198 renewals.
Mr. Muntaka stated that the milestone was achieved under the able leadership of the Chief Executive of NHIA, Dr. Asare Bampoe, and with an unprecedented support of chiefs and all traditional leaders.
He commended the selfless efforts of staff in achieving the feat and expressed optimism that their contribution would not go unnoticed.
Mr. Muntaka prayed for good health and long life for the Asantehene, as his leadership has inspired the Authority to achieve such a massive milestone to improve access to affordable healthcare for residents in the region.
