Majority of delegates from the Ashanti Region have endorsed the bid of the former Subin Member of Parliament, Eugene Boakye Antwi, as the next General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Except delegates from 10 constituencies, which primaries are in dispute and 12 constituencies yet to be covered, the delegates, numbering about 500 out of 940, have declared support for the former Deputy Minister of Works and Housing.
The latter interacted with them separately across the region in his campaign trail over three days, having launched his National Campaign for the General Secretary slot with a Catholic Mass at the St. Peter’s Basilica Cathedral in Kumasi last Sunday.
They declared their support when the General Secretary hopeful addressed about 500 delegates from 25 constituencies in groups at Obuasi, Bekwai, Juaben, Mampong, Offinso, Tepa, Abuakwa and Konongo over three days.
The position of the delegates is explained in their realisation that the NPP needed a firebrand administrator who is capable of enforcing the provisions of the party’s constitution and instil discipline in the party towards winning power in 2028.
Eugene Boakye Antwi promised to address the indiscipline and inefficiency in the administrative system of the party as the Chief administrator and organiser, and called on them to be united and focused to win power in 2028, reminding them that there will be no power without discipline. “No discipline, No power”.
He emphasised that NPP’s prospects for a triumphant return to office in the 2028 general elections will depend on unity, competence and visionary leadership through his ‘Unite Agenda’.
Mr Boakye Antwi called for unity of purpose and focus on their objective to win political power in 2028 and reminded them that a “united NPP is an unstoppable party, while a divided NPP is a defeated party”.
He has pledged to be a strong and powerful General Secretary and a disciplined and authoritative leader if he is given the mandate to function and coordinate the system and exercise direct control over daily political operations, organisational strategy and implementation.
“With a proven organisational ability and experience, I will defend and protect the party and deepen grassroots engagement and build party structure since political parties are built on structures and not slogans”, he said.
He also promised to support and activate all the wings of the party (youth, women and Nasara) by way of training and resources, since they form 70% of the party’s support base.
The aspirant bemoaned the loss of 50 seats in one election cycle under the current administration, stressing the need to reorganise and modernise the party in order to restore confidence of the Ghanaian voter in the party and resume office.
The loss of 50 seats in the last Parliamentary elections, he said, was appalling and humiliating hence the need to make the NPP strong and position itself well to capture power, because Ghanaians need the party to save mother Ghana.
Mr Kennedy Kwasi Kankam, former MP for Nhyiaeso, assured that the party would definitely come back to power and called for a strong, effective and efficient leadership to make the party attractive and strong based on a competent General Secretary.
The former Regional Organiser reminded the delegates that for the NPP to win political power for Bawumia to become President, delegates must assert themselves and cause a reshuffle of the current crop of national executives to ensure the needed change.
He said the NDC was rough and tough and, therefore, needed an equal force and a firebrand to enable the party meet its opponent boot for boot and ensure electoral victory in the 2028 elections.
Mr. Kankam stressed that the only and sole aim of the NPP was to win political power, hence the need for a strong man to champion that cause, stressing that it is a taboo for the NDC to occupy seven parliamentary seats in the Ashanti region.
Other members of Eugene Boakye Antwi’s Campaign team are; Mr Osei Frimpong, former MP for New Abirem (Campaign manager), Barima Sarpong, (National Coordinator) and Emmanuel Agyei Anhwere (Ashanti Regional Coordinator).
