The Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Defence and Interior, Kennedy Ohene Agyepong, has promised the naming of the AstroTurf project at the Ashaiman Roman Down after the late Trooper Imoro Sheriff.
He said this at Zongo Laka, Ashaiman, on Thursday, when he led the Committee to comfort the family of the 21-year-old soldier who was murdered by some thugs in the early hours of March 4, this year.
Describing the incident as unfortunate, Mr. Agyepong said the community should not use the fallouts to dent the healthy relationship between civilians and the state security agencies.
“All that had happened should teach us a lesson, going forward as a country. We must not do anything to disturb the peace we are enjoying as a country, or break the good relationship between the civilian population and state security,” he said.
On his part, Dominic Nitiwul, Defence Minister, was sad to say: “This is the second time that as a Minister, I have been made to experience and bear such pain of losing a soldier after a mob action at Denkyira Obuasi, which claimed the life of Major Adam Mahama in May 2017. It is an incident that should not [be] repeated, as it doesn’t speak well of us as a nation.
“I want to say a big sorry to the family of our late brother.”
The Committee and Defence Ministry made some cash donations to the bereaved family.
Mr. Ken Agyepong also made a personal cash donation to the family and promised to fully sponsor the education of Imoro Sheriff’s younger brother up to the highest level.
