Armah Kofi Buah leads celebration of Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah’s birthday

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle Constituency in the Western Region, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, is putting together a number of activities to mark the birthday of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, in a grand style.

Thursday, September 21, 2023, is a statutory public holiday and will be Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day.

As a result, the MP for Ellembelle, who is also the Deputy Minority Leader, has drawn up activities to mark the occasion, dubbed “Journey to Nkroful”, to mark the 114th Birthday of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the man who led Ghana to independence.

Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was born on September 21, 1909 at Nkroful, in the Nzema East Municipality in the Western Region.

Under the auspices of Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, a number of activities have been lined up to mark this year’s celebration.

There was a general clean up exercise through the principal streets of Nkroful, the hometown of Osagyefo Dr.  Kwame Nkrumah last Saturday, September 16, 2023, followed by a soccer competition among nine community teams at Nkroful Agricultural Senior High School (NASS) park to ensure unity and preparations towards the main event.

According to the programme, there would be a candle light procession and cutting of Nkrumah’s birthday cake on Wednesday September 20, 2023, at Osagyefo’s mother’s residence at exactly 12 midnight.

A SHS Symposium at NASS Yinsin Hall, which will focus on the story of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s birth, through to the struggle for independence, and his achievement as the First President of Ghana on Thursday September 21, 2023.

Nkroful will go pink on Friday September 22, 2023, which day is set for a visit to most tourist sites in Nkroful, as well as a talent hunt show at Mausoleum Park at exactly 7pm.

The grand durbar and homecoming to climax the event is scheduled for Saturday, September 23, 2023, when chiefs, diplomats and visitors from all walks of life would be hosted at Nkroful, at the NASS Park.

The day will also witness a colourful procession of masquerades, dance and culture between the hours of 8am to 2pm, and then a musical stage to honour five music legends in Ghana at 7pm.

There will be a special Nzema food bazaar to end the occasion, which is duly supported by Golden Empire Legacy Limited, Maaha Beach Resort and The GEM Media.
