Arise Ghana gives govt 48hours ultimatum to suspend utility tariffs increment

The Convener of Arise Ghana, Benard Monarh, has disclosed that his outfit has given Government 48 hour’s ultimatum to suspend the utility tariffs adjustments or face the wrath of Arise Ghana and Ghanaians.

Speaking at a presser yesterday, in Accra, under the theme: “Increment in utility tariffs and economic hardship”, Mr. Monarh stated that government, despite the current economic situation, has increase utility tariffs; water by 21.55% and electricity by 27.15%; worsening the economic situation in the country.

“Water and electricity are two basic amenities and inputs for households and businesses which means any increase in these utility tariffs will lead to an increase in cost of living to various households as well as an increase in the cost of production of many business enterprises. From 2017 to 2018, the PURC conducted eight reviews of electricity tariffs,” he added.

He reiterated Arise Ghana’s call for the termination of the appointment of the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, who in this serious economic crisis has abandoned his office and is in the United States of America seeking medical care.

Benard Monarh concluded by calling on Parliament to expedite action to pass a vote of censure on the Finance Minister to bring to an end five years of fiscal recklessness, abuse of office, conflict of interest and above all crass mismanagement of the Ghanaian Economy.
