Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State hosted the Archbishop of Canterbury, His Grace Justin Welby, at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House in the state capital, describing the courtesy visit as a moment of reflection on the state’s evolving peace and stability.
The Saturday visit took place on the sidelines of the archbishop’s engagement at the Ahmadu Bello University, highlighting Kaduna State’s progress in peacebuilding and interfaith harmony.
Recalling his first visit to Kaduna in 2002, a period marked by ethno-religious violence and deep- rooted divisions, Archbishop Welby noted the significant transformation the state has undergone.
He commended the relative peace, unity, and stability presently evident across Kaduna, noting that it was due to such improvements that informed his decision to visit Governor Sani.
On his part, Governor Sani commended Welby for the visit and reflections, describing them as a validation of the Kaduna State Government’s deliberate approach to peace-building.
“I expressed my profound appreciation to the Archbishop for the honour of his visit and for his thoughtful reflections. I took the opportunity to share insights into what has come to be known as the Kaduna Peace Model, an approach grounded in dialogue, inclusion, and fairness,” he said.
The governor highlighted what he termed the Kaduna peace model, an inclusive governance framework anchored on dialogue, equity, justice, and mutual respect.
“Over the past two and a half years, this model has yielded measurable results, most notably the absence of ethno-religious conflict in a state once synonymous with division. This outcome has not been accidental; it is the product of deliberate governance choices and a steadfast refusal to allow identity to become a fault line for instability,” he noted
He noted that over the past two and a half years, the state has recorded no ethno-religious conflict, a development he attributed to intentional policies and sustained engagement with all communities.
Continuing, Governor Sani reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to deepening unity across religious and ethnic lines, stressing that development must reach every community to sustain long-term peace.
