Speaking at the event, which coincided with the Celebration of the World Environment Day, Mr. Francis Sarfo, Closure Manager of AGA, noted that the theme for this year’s Celebration, “Inspired by Nature, For Climate, For Future” serves as a timely reminder that nature is not only the source of our lives and livelihoods but also our greatest ally in addressing the environmental challenges confronting our world.

According to him, the responsibility to protect our environment therefore rests on all of us.

At AGA, Mr. Sarfo noted, environmental stewardship remains a cornerstone of the company’s sustainability strategy.

“Environmental protection is everyone’s responsibility; Nature protection is everyone’s responsibility; Let us be inspired by the nature that we have come to inherit and let us make it better for the future,” he stated.

The AGA Closure Manager encouraged all residents, institutions and community leaders to embrace nature-based solutions, adopt environmentally responsible practices and work together to safeguard our environment for future generations.

The Director, Obuasi Office of Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), Ing. Moses Kpebu noted that in Obuasi and the wider Adansi area, environmental challenges such as deforestation, pollution of water bodies, improper waste disposal and the impact of climate change continue to threaten our ecosystems and livelihoods.

To address these challenges, he called for collective action and a commitment to sustainable practices including tree planting, proper waste management and responsible stewardship of the environment.

Okofo Kwabena Bonsu, Dompoasehene expressed concern over the destruction of forests and river bodies in the country as a result of galamsey activities.

He noted that if care is not taken, we will all live to regret one day by our activities.

Winners – Team Apagya

The chief commended AGA and its partners for organization of the programme which he said will inspire the younger generation to become environmental stewards.

In a solidarity message read on behalf of Underground Mining Alliance (UMA) by Angela Dakora the company said,” today’s competition among the five finalists is more than a quiz. It is about building awareness, inspiring action, and shaping a generation that will lead us towards cleaner, more resilient communities.”

“The knowledge you demonstrate today goes far beyond this stage. You are not only students of the environment; you are its ambassadors. As we move towards a low-carbon future it is your generation that will lead the way.” the statement added.
