The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, has stated that all eight Agenda 111 district hospitals in the region had commenced.
The eight are located in Kpetoe in the Agortime Ziope District, Agortoe in the Anloga District, Ave-Dakpa in the Akatsi North District, and Ve-Golokwati Afadzato in the Afadzato South District.
The others are Adeheta in the Akatsi South District, Adaklu Waya in the Adaklu District, Kpeve New Town in the South Dayi District, and Dzolokputa in the Ho West Districts.
Minister Letsa noted that these projects were 10-15% complete and expected to be completed between February to August next year.
The Agenda 111 projects include the establishment of 101 district hospitals, six regional hospitals in the newly created regions, two specialised hospitals in the middle and northern belts, as well as a regional hospital in the Western Region, and the renovation of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital.
The objective is to significantly deepen the delivery of quality healthcare at the district level, and boost access to healthcare services for all citizens towards ensuring the attainment of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal Three.
Dr. Letsa confirmed that the completion of these hospitals would help improve access to quality healthcare services and boost the provision of healthcare infrastructure in the region.
He made this known at the State of the Region report, organised by the Ministry of Information, in Accra yesterday.
Aside the Agenda 111 projects, Dr. Letsa also spoke about other projects being carried out in the region intended to boost the welfare of the inhabitants.
He spoke about the Ghana Secondary City Support Programme aimed at improving urban management and the provision of basic urban services.
He said under this programme, 228 lockable stores, restaurants, revenue posts had been put up in some districts in the region.
He also spoke about the establishment of the Rural Enterprise Programme Technology Solution Centre aimed at helping businesses in the region.
The other projects which Dr. Letsa spoke highly of were the various water projects ongoing in the region.
Explaining why he was excited about these water programs, the Regional Minister said that there were places in the region, including Amedzofe, where access to water was very difficult.
Dr. Letsa noted that the construction of some of these projects had connected many communities to water.
He spoke about the Spanish Debt Swap water project, which was serving 35 habitats in four communities in the region.
He also spoke about the Ziope, Batume and Akpokope water projects, which were all helping the inhabitants get access to water.
