Muslim leaders schooled on conflict resolution and promotion of peace

A three-day Orientation programme has been organised for over a 100 Imams and Muslim clerics at the Central Mosque in Kumasi.

The Muslim leaders were drawn from across the Ashanti Region and taken through conflict resolution, security, and promotion of Islamic principles.

The theme for the training programme was: “The Role of Imams In Promoting Social Security and National Development.”

The Asanteman Zongo Nkosuohene, Sariki Alhaji Abdulai Ali, who chaired the occasion, described the course as transformative and implored them to promote peace in their areas.

He has been entreated to champion the path for peace in the country by focusing on Islamic principles such as justice, peaceful co-existence, compassion and the pursuit of knowledge for social harmony and peace.

He noted that the seminar reflects a diversity and active commitment among Muslims, adding the acquired knowledge would advance interfaith harmony and coexistence with other religious bodies in the communities.

Sariki Abdulai Ali disclosed that Islam is a religion that instructs harmony among tribes of humanity and hoped the Imams would put into practice what they had learnt.

Sheikh Mohammed Ridwan Kudibawasaba, Chairman for Zongo Peace and Reconciliation Committee in Kumasi implored Imams to foster strong collaboration with the police, military and local authorities to enhance community vigilance and intelligence sharing.

He also encouraged them to address security challenges including campaigns against illegal mining (galamsey) and violent conflicts.

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s representative, Nana Sefa Bosompem, who serves as Asanteman Dwantoahene, commended the Muslim leaders and hoped the additional knowledge would be a life changer to them and their communities.

He reminded them of the prevailing peace in the region as the centre stage of Asantehene’s rule.

The Ashanti Regional Chief Imam, Sheikh Zakariya Abdul Rahman Sule called on the leaders to foster dialogue and mentorship to equip them with the skills and confidence to make a lasting impact on the society.

The event ended with the presentation of Certificates of participation and Qurans to the participants.
