Dozens of constituency youth organisers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region have launched a blistering attack on Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s presidential candidacy.

Sixty-two out of 94 current constituency youth and deputy organisers, as well as 34 of 46 former organisers have accused Dr. Bryan Acheampong of conduct “inconsistent with the values, traditions and future goals of the NPP.”

They are alleging conflicts of interest, poor leadership and divisive politics that they claim damaged the party’s public image and electoral fortunes.

In a statement released in Kumasi, the group said “Our stance is not driven by personal dislike but by principle,” adding “Dr. Acheampong’s actions and controversies undermine the NPP’s integrity and public trust.”

SSNIT Hotel issue cost NPP the 2024 Elections

The youth group pointed to what they termed a conflict of interest in the controversial attempt by Dr. Acheampong to acquire majority shares in SSNIT hotels, while serving as a minister of state which they described as “a betrayal of public trust that alienated millions of contributors.”

According to the accusers, the issue “angered over 1.7 million SSNIT contributors and directly contributed to the NPP’s electoral defeat in 2024.

“Despite public outrage, Dr. Acheampong showed no remorse or accountability. His insensitivity eroded confidence in government and cost us dearly at the polls,” the statement said.

The Youth Organisers also slammed Dr. Acheampong’s record as Minister for Food and Agriculture, accusing him of poor management and delayed input distribution that crippled the Planting for Food and Jobs initiative.

They claimed that his failure to ensure timely supply of fertilizers and inputs to farmers in the Northern, Savannah, Ashanti and Bono Regions “caused massive disaffection and economic hardship among rural farmers.”

“It is hypocritical for him to blame Dr. Bawumia for the economy’s woes when his own ministry failed to deliver,” they charged.

The group also condemned Dr. Acheampong’s widely criticized 2024 comment that the NPP “would not hand over power,” describing it as reckless and undemocratic.

“That statement dented the NPP’s democratic image and gave ammunition to the opposition,” the group said.

They warned that fielding him as flagbearer “would invite public rejection, mass defections, and renewed apathy among farmers and youth.”

Bawumia for 2028

As a result of the above concerns, the organizers endorsed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s best choice for the 2028 general elections.

“Out of 94 constituency youth organisers, 62 have declared full support for Dr. Bawumia,” the group announced explained that “he (Bawumia) exemplifies humility, competence and inclusiveness, qualities needed to rebuild the NPP.”

The youth organisers have, therefore, urged all NPP delegates to rally behind Dr.Bawumia in the upcoming January 31, 2026, flagbearership election, emphasising their confidence that “the DMB train will carry the NPP to victory.”
