The Criminal Division ‘4’ of the High Court in Accra, presided over by Her Ladyship Audrey Kocuvie-Tay, has rescinded a bench warrant issued against the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

The court took the decision following a plea from his counsel, Lawyer Andy Appiah-Kubi, who took full responsibility for his client’s lateness to court.

According to counsel, he had mistakenly informed Chairman Wontumi that the court hearing was scheduled for 10:00 a.m., instead of the actual time of 9:00 a.m.

Her Ladyship, however, cautioned that the case is between the Republic and the accused, and therefore she would not tolerate any further lateness.

It is noteworthy that Chairman Wontumi arrived at the court a few minutes after the bench warrant had been issued. The case has been adjourned to November 4, 2025.
