The Enugu State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has vowed that despite recent defections from the party to the All Progressives Congress, APC, it is poised to win all elections in the 2027 general elections.

DAILY POST recalls that the State Governor, Peter Mbah, alongside executive council members and other political functionaries, defected to the APC last week.

Addressing journalists at the PDP state office, the Acting State Chairman, Steve Oruruo, said that many people remain in the party while others have indicated interest in joining and helping to win elections in the state.

Oruruo reassured the people of Enugu State that PDP remains very much alive and more resolute than ever, committed to rebuilding the party despite the governor’s defection.

According to him, the party has commenced galvanising its members to stay united and motivated, ensuring that the defection of some will not lead to the capitulation of the party.

“This is not the only state where a governor left the party and the party remained firm. We have canvassed for credible conventions and legitimate primaries with quality candidates capable of drawing support. The PDP in Enugu State is more ready than ever to join forces with anyone interested in partnering with the party to ensure it remains strong.

“We want the world to know that we are unmitigated, unwavering, and unalloyed in our commitment to staying firm and solid. We are undeterred. We want to recreate a party capable of winning elections. We are independent, cannot be shoved aside, and are rebuilding a party from which responsible candidates will emerge,” Oruruo reassured.

The acting chairman emphasised that PDP is capable of bouncing back in the state despite the defections, which he said the party does not intend to challenge in court.

Oruruo acknowledged that there are minor crises at the national level but assured that the party has mechanisms to resolve any issues promptly.
