Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has expressed appreciation to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, for initiating talks with the US Embassy and the Canadian High Commission to discuss visa arrangements for Ghanaian football fans ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a statement, Mr. Okraku confirmed that he attended the meeting convened by the Foreign Minister, alongside Head of National Teams Department, Alex Asante, and Chief of Staff, Michael Osekere. Senior Directors from both the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Sports were also present.

The US delegation was led by Acting Ambassador Rolf Olson, while Acting Canadian High Commissioner Dennis Roussel led the Canadian team.

Mr Okraku said the discussions aimed at ensuring mutual understanding on expectations and requirements, improving coordination, enhancing visa facilitation, and developing clear working roadmaps to guarantee smooth travel experiences for Ghanaian fans.

He further revealed that the meeting discussed special visa arrangements for supporters, officials, and players outside regular application procedures.

According to him, the recent reversal of the US single-entry visa policy, now allowing multiple entries, was timely, as it would enable Ghanaian fans to move freely between the US, Canada, and Mexico during the tournament.

“We are scheduled to hold a similar engagement with officials from the Mexican Embassy on Friday,” Mr Okraku added, while expressing gratitude to both the Foreign Affairs and Sports Ministries for their proactive collaboration.
