President John Mahama joined the chiefs and people of the Some and Aflao Traditional Areas at Agavedzi, Ketu South Municipality in the Volta Region, to mark the commencement of the second phase of the Blekusu Coastal Protection Project.

The communities of Blekusu, Agavedzi, Salakope, Amutsinu and Adina have bravely battled the relentless force of the sea.

The project will protect an 8-kilometre coastal belt through the construction of thirty-seven (37) groins, dune restoration, reinforced embankments and other critical shoreline defence infrastructure.

The Project has been awarded to Amandi. It is expected to be completed within four years. The company has set up its operational base at Azizadzi, ahead of full-scale commencement of construction works.

With the support of Eximbank, the VRCC has provided adequate temporary shelters to allow residents to relocate to higher ground for their safety and to pave the way for uninterrupted construction activities.

In addition, a housing project will be built to serve as a permanent resettlement solution for displaced victims.
