We’ll support you to achieve your mining industry reforms agenda -GNASSM

The Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners (GNASSM) has assured the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, of their unwavering support for his vision to transform the mining industry.

In a statement issued in Accra on Thursday, January 30, 2025 and signed by its General Secretary, Godwin Nickleson Amarh, GNASSM noted that the Minister’s vision aligns with their goals of promoting sustainable mining practices. The association pledged its utmost support to help him to achieve this vision.

During his vetting by the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament, Minister Buah outlined his vision for the mining industry, focusing on combating illegal mining and promoting sustainable practices.

His approach centers around three key areas: Community Engagement, Decentralisation of the Mining Licensing Regime and the Repeal of L.I. 2462.

These pillars align with GNASSM’s advocacy efforts to rid the industry of illegal miners, known as galamseyers.

The association is hopeful that Minister Buah’s experience in managing public portfolios in the extractive industry will undoubtedly prove invaluable, particularly in clamping down on illegal mining and promoting responsible and  sustainable practices that safeguard livelihoods and protect the environment.

“We are delighted to welcome you as you take on a lead role in reforming the mining industry, a critical sector that anchors the Ghanaian economy,” the statement read.

“We stand ready to partner with you and your office to realise your vision.”
