Heart of Lions lose at home to Nations FC

Heart of Lions suffered consecutive defeats for the first time in the Ghana Premier League since May 2024 after falling to Nations FC on Sunday.

Entering the game as league leaders, Lions aimed to finish the first round of the season atop the table.

However, their aspirations were dashed as Nations secured a narrow 1-0 victory at the Kpando Sports Stadium.

The defeat marked the end of Lions’ impressive 19-match unbeaten home run, a record that had stood throughout the current campaign.

Despite dominating possession in the first half, the home side struggled to break down Nations’ resolute defence and missed several key opportunities to take the lead.

The visitors, however, emerged a much stronger side in the second half.

They posed significant challenges to Lions’ defence with their counter-attacking play.

Their persistence paid off in the 82nd minute when Ivorian forward Boris Djangone capitalised on a defensive lapse to score the decisive goal.

The victory propelled Nations to second place on the league table with 32 points from 17 matches.

Lions, on the other hand, slipped to third place, ending the first round with a disappointing loss that dented their title ambitions.
