The President has directed the immediate cessation of the sale, lease or processing of transactions involving State and Public lands.
The directive, issued and duly communicated to the Executve Secretary of the Lands Commission last Friday by Dr. Callistus Mahama, the Executive Secretary to the President, said the directive is intended to protect and preserve State and Public lands for the collective benefit of the Ghanaian citizenry and future generations.
It also called a halt to all ongoing and pending transactions without delay to ensure a comprehensive review of the current framework governing the management of State and Public lands.
The Lands Commission was also requested to submit a detailed report of all recent and ongoing transactions regarding State and Public lands to the Office of the President within 14 days, without fail.
Meanwhile, President Mahama has also requested the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare to launch full investigations into the tragic deaths of Ghanaians in various parts of the country, during the general elections in 2020 and 2024.
According to Dr. Callistus Mahama, the Executive Secretary, who served notice of the President’s directive to the IGP last Friday, through Joshua Narteh of the IGP’s Secretariat, it is imperative that justice is served for the victims and their families.
The Presidency has accordingly made recommendations for the consideration of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service to ensure that n the investigations are comprehensive and transparent.
It has been recommended that a Dedicated Investigations Taskforce is established within the CID to focus solely on the said cases to ensure undivided attention and efficient handling of the cases.
It was also suggested that the Taskforce collaborates with witnesses and victims’ families and conducts thorough interviews with eyewitnesses, review electoral security arrangements and employ forensic evidence, as well as collaborate with electoral and civic bodies to review reports for the 2020 and 2024 elections for additional context.
The President also requested that periodic updates on the progress of the investigations are made to maintain public trust and transparency and help assure the public of the Police Administration to uncover the truth.
The IGP has been assured of the President’s utmost support in the proposed investigations.
