Chief Executive Officer of MobileMoney Fintech LTD (MMFL), Shaibu Haruna, has been named CEO of the Year–Fintech, at the Ghana CEO Vision & Awards 2026, retaining the honour for the second consecutive year.
The recognition marks another milestone in Mr Haruna’s leadership of Ghana’s mobile money and fintech industry, following a year of significant developments in the company’s operations, industry partnerships and efforts to promote financial inclusion.
His latest achievement comes after he was also named Fintech CEO of the Year at the MTN Group Global Leadership Gathering earlier in 2026.
A major highlight of his leadership this year was the structural separation of Scancom PLC’s mobile money business, which took effect on March 31, 2026, with Mr Haruna overseeing the transition of Mobile Money Fintech LTD into a dedicated fintech business.
The statutory merger of MobileMoney Ltd. into MMFL was aimed at supporting focused growth in the fintech sector while meeting localisation requirements under the Payment Systems and Services Act, 2019 (Act 987).
The company’s business performance has also recorded significant growth, with MoMo revenue increasing by 35.7 per cent in 2025 and active users reaching 19.3 million. Revenue growth continued into the first half of 2026, driven by basic services, digital payments and lending.
Beyond the company’s commercial performance, Mr Haruna has championed stronger collaboration within the fintech ecosystem, particularly in areas such as consumer protection, digital lending, interoperability and the development of shared financial infrastructure.
At the 3i Africa Summit, he advocated stronger consumer protection in digital lending and improved interoperability, while also calling for banks and fintech companies to build emerging digital asset and tokenization services on Ghana’s existing mobile money infrastructure.
His commitment to developing the wider industry has also extended to media engagement. Through the Fintech Media Development Series, he has engaged journalists on fintech strategy, financial inclusion, cyber security and consumer protection to strengthen accurate reporting and public understanding of the sector.
Another key area of focus has been nurturing the next generation of fintech innovators through the MoMo Fintech Lab, a nationwide initiative organised by MMFL in partnership with the Bank of Ghana and other fintech ecosystem players.
The programme supports students, developers, entrepreneurs, startups and innovators to transform ideas into practical financial solutions.
Commenting on the recognition, Mr Haruna expressed appreciation to the organisers, his team and industry partners, describing the award as a collective achievement.
“I am honoured to receive this award for the second consecutive year. I share this recognition with the MMFL team and our partners across the fintech ecosystem.
“We remain committed to building trusted financial services, strengthening collaboration and nurturing the talent that will shape the future of fintech in Ghana,” he said.
A team from Mobile Money Fintech LTD received the award on his behalf at the ceremony.
The latest recognition further highlights Mr Haruna’s role in shaping the growth of Ghana’s digital financial services industry.
