Harry Evans Arthur, the Education Director for the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality, says the municipality’s performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has improved significantly, recording about 90 per cent compared to the 69 per cent recorded before he assumed office last year.
The improved performance in the external national examination, he said, was a result of the implementation of appropriate measures and strict supervision in collaboration with head teachers. Mr Arthur said this at a brief presentation of hundreds of pieces of furniture to his office for onward distribution to schools under his supervision by the Kpone-Katamanso Assembly (KKMA).
The pieces of furniture would benefit 57 schools across the municipality, and the supply is part of the Assembly’s annual support towards improving teaching and learning.
The latest supply marks the seventh time the Assembly has undertaken such an exercise in the last couple of years to make learning more convenient for learners in the area.
The Assembly had already provided 500 mono desks, 350 dual desks, 180 tables and chairs and 140 teachers’ tables and chairs to some schools in the area.
Harry Evans Arthur lauded the Assembly for the initiative and assured the gathering that the furniture would be distributed to schools that needed it most. He also noted that providing adequate furniture contributed to the improved quality of education, as students were able to sit comfortably and concentrate better on their academic work.
He, therefore, urged the Assembly to do more to ensure that all schools in need of furniture were adequately supplied for improved academic outcomes in the subsequent years.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kpone-Katamanso, Samuel Tetteh Morton Quarshie, said the distribution of the furniture formed part of efforts to fulfil government’s directives under the District Assemblies’ Common Fund (DACF), adding that furniture had so far been distributed to selected schools, covering about 57 schools.
He said the Assembly had made arrangements for another round of distribution and was aiming to procure about 2,000 pieces of furniture between September this year and mid next year. He added that some students tend to damage desks after completing school, sometimes out of excitement.
In view of this, he said artisans would be assigned to various schools to assist with the maintenance and repair of the furniture. The MCE expressed satisfaction with the exercise, saying it had also provided an opportunity for authorities to strengthen supervision of students and encourage them to improve their academic performance.
He also corroborated that the improved supervision contributed to better performance in this year’s BECE compared to the previous year. He added that the Assembly was putting additional measures in place to improve academic outcomes in the coming years, to win almost all the Presidential Awards.
He, therefore, appealed to residents to have faith in the government, assuring them that more development projects were in the pipeline, saying, “There is hope for the municipality.”
Similarly, the Tema ECG Regional branch of the all-female club of the Electricity Company of Ghana, the Power Queens Club, Tema Region, made a donation to the Fridoug Children’s Unit of the Tema Urban Hospital on Thursday, 24th September 2026.
The donation formed part of the Club’s 38th anniversary celebrations, with various activities being held by the various divisions across all ECG’s operational areas. The items donated included a handheld pulse oximeter, nebuliser, digital infantometer, pulse oximeter and a fingertip pulse oximeter.
The ECG Tema Region Power Queens Club President, Queen Annabel Buabasa Zormelo, did the presentation on behalf of the members. She was supported by the Region’s Human Resource Manager, Madam Emelia Dadzie, and the Accounts Manager, Madam Emelia Obodai.
The items were received by Madam Vida Annang, the Head of the Antenatal Unit of the Tema Urban Hospital at Tema Community Two. She appreciated the Club for the donation, which she said, would go a long way in supporting the discharge of their duties.
