Aduana FC produced a remarkable performance to stun Asante Kotoko 2-0 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium yesterday, playing more than 50 minutes with 10 men to secure a statement victory.
Samuel Boadu’s side showed outstanding defensive organisation and clinical finishing to hand Kotoko their first defeat of the Ghana Premier League season.
Aduana took the lead after just seven minutes when Stephen Amankona capitalised on an error by Kotoko goalkeeper Ibrahim Danlad to put the visitors ahead.
Their task became significantly harder late in the first half when Raymond Agyemang was sent off after receiving two yellow cards within five minutes.
Despite playing the majority of the second half with 10 men, Aduana remained disciplined and frustrated Kotoko, who struggled to create a clear-cut opportunity.
Rather than simply sitting back, Aduana continued to pose a threat going forward and even hit the post in the second half, as they looked the more dangerous side at times.
Their resilience was rewarded late in the game when Seidu Saana sealed the victory on the counter-attack.
Kotoko had pushed men forward in search of an equalizer but Aduana capitalized on it when Saana raced through on the counter and went past Danlad, and then calmly slotted the ball into the goalpost to make it 2-0.
It was a superb tactical display from coach Boadu and his players, who managed the game brilliantly, despite their numerical disadvantage.
The result takes Aduana to seven points from their opening four matches, while Kotoko suffer their first defeat of the league campaign.
Boadu’s side will now turn their attention to their next league assignment against AshantiGold, while Kotoko will look to bounce back when they face Young Apostles.
