Mahama dissolves boards of nine state institutions

President John Dramani Mahama has dissolved the boards of nine state institutions with immediate effect, paving the way for their reconstitution.

The affected institutions are Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited, Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST), Volta Aluminium Company Limited (VALCO), Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited (CBG) and Ghana Post Company Limited.

Others are the Road Maintenance Trust Fund, TDC Ghana Limited, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and the National Sports Authority.

A statement issued by the President’s Spokesperson and Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said the relevant sector Ministers had been directed to take all necessary steps, in accordance with the applicable laws and governing instruments, to give effect to the dissolution.

The statement, however, did not give reasons for the dissolution of the boards.It said the affected boards would be reconstituted “in due course.”

The move affects boards overseeing key institutions in the petroleum, banking, mining, transport infrastructure, sports and public services sectors.The dissolution takes immediate effect.
