Content creator and comedian SDK has opened up about the challenges he faced when he started creating content, revealing that he did not own a phone and often relied on his sister’s and a friend’s devices.

Speaking on Behind the Hustle, a programme on 3Xtra, SDK said access to a device was one of his biggest challenges.

“I didn’t really have a phone of my own. I was usually shooting and editing with my sister’s phone. And most of the time, she went to work without her phone because I would need it for shooting. Sometimes, when she wasn’t around, I had to call my friend to use his phone. That was the hardest part when I was starting.”

He also recalled the disappointment of spending days creating content, only for it to receive little engagement after being posted.

“I would spend days shooting content, post it, and it would flop. You would feel bad and start questioning yourself about what you’re doing wrong. But it’s fine; it’s part of the journey. When you come to understand the work, you’ll keep pushing. It is normal.”

Reflecting on his growth as a creator, SDK said some of his older content now makes him realise how much he has developed over the years.

“I did one piece of content about eight years ago. I thought it was a joke, but later on, I bumped into that content, and I knew that if it were now, I wouldn’t have shot that content.”
