The Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA) has distributed 60,000 elite rubber seedlings to 135 beneficiary farmers in the Western Region under the TCDA Free Elite Seedlings Distribution Programme for the 2026 planting season.

Dr. Andy Osei Okrah, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Authority who led the initiative indicated that in addition to the seedlings, beneficiaries received essential farm inputs including termiticides, herbicides, and Wellington boots to support the successful establishment and maintenance of their rubber plantations.

Mr. Richard Kofi Kofituo, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Operations), together with the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Administration and Finance), Mr. Stephen Acquah Asante, Technical Director, Mr. Eric Asamani, and TCDA’s Rubber Value Chain Specialist, Mr. Kennedy Nsiah, carried out the distribution on behalf of the Chief Executive officer.

Mr. Kofituo disclosed that the initiative reaffirms TCDA’s commitment to increasing production across Ghana’s tree crops sector, with rubber identified as one of the Authority’s key strategic priority crops.

According to him, beyond increasing production, the Authority’s vision is to enhance value addition by creating an enabling environment for private investment in rubber processing and manufacturing. This, he said, includes products such as car tyres, medical gloves, condoms, and other rubber-based products.

Beneficiary farmers commended the government and the leadership of TCDA for the support to farmers in the rubber industry. They noted that the intervention will help increase production, improve livelihoods, and accelerate the growth of Ghana’s rubber sector.
