The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has marked Cadres Commemoration Day at the Prempeh Assembly Hall, in Kumasi, with a call on members to join the cadres to champion the cause of the party with a common mindset and dedication.

Fiifi Kwetey addressing the gathering

The commemoration of Cadres Day was organised by the Young Cadres in the Ashanti Region, last Friday, in recognition of the role of cadres whose dedication and commitment sustained the revolution and the birth of the party.

The theme of the Commemorative Day event was “Ensuring Transparent Governance: Role of Cadres”.

The General Secretary of the NDC, Mr. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, reminded NDC members that cadreship was the system that gave birth to the NDC as a family, and that one cannot be an NDC member without being a cadre.

He stressed that it is high time cadre-ship took up the core leadership of the party with commitment to the values of the party, adding that the whole NDC must be full of cadres because it is the party’s duty to ensure that cadres are not a small group, but the future of the party.

The General Secretary stressed the need for every single member of NDC to appreciate cadres and become a cadre.

Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Chairman of the NDC

According to him, the NDC needed total dedication to the original values and the spirit of the movement and appealed to Nkrumahists and other factions in the party to join forces with cadres to ensure that the NDC continues to be strong.

“The whole NDC must be full of cadres, so that everyone understands its values, its principles and the spirit behind the party,” he said, noting that if there is a group that must be in the forefront of the party it should be cadres, who have been there from the beginning.

He said until every member of NDC becomes a cadre, leadership has failed its responsibility, hence the need for the party to ensure that cadreship is not just a small group within the party, anymore stressing that the tent must become a bigger tent in order to bring all under the umbrella as one family.

The NDC scribe indicated that it was time for even New Patriotic Party (NPP) members to become cadres, because true cadreism means patriotism, nationalism, a sense of loyalty, dedication and sacrifice for one’s country.

Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Chairman of the NDC, urged Ghanaian youth to embrace the values of cadres who fought against rot, corruption and wrongdoing in society and in the country’s body politic.

According to him cadres were formed to fight corruption and protect the gains of the PNDC government to the extent that unarmed cadres, led by Comrade Bediako, arrested the late Cpl. Alidu Gyiwah at Drobo, in the Bono Region, when he rebelled against the PNDC government.

He noted that June 19 stands for bravery in pursuing the national interest and vigilance in unravelling the rot in society and stopping the misuse of government funds in the fight against corruption.

The NDC chairman explained that NPP members on the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health disrespected Ashantis twice over the Afari Military Hospital by abandoning the project for eight years, yet turned round to criticise the NDC after just one and a half years, for not completing the project.
