The family of the late Apostle Emeritus Prof. Ing. Kwadwo Safo has confirmed that former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, is responding positively to medical treatment following a shooting incident that occurred over the weekend amid an escalating succession dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission.

In a statement issued by the family, the former lawmaker, who has been recognized as the Head of the Kwadwo Safo Family, was said to be in stable condition after sustaining injuries during the incident.

The family expressed regret over the attack and assured members of the Kristo Asafo Mission, relatives, friends and sympathisers that Adwoa Safo’s condition was improving.

The statement also sought to clarify succession arrangements within the Kristo Asafo Mission following the death of its founder, Apostle Kwadwo Safo, on September 11, 2025.

According to the family, Apostle Kwadwo Safo initially designated his son, Israel Nana Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Akofena, as his successor in 2017 and entrusted him with leadership of the church and oversight of the conglomerate’s businesses.

However, the family alleged that several businesses under the Kristo Asafo Group experienced significant decline during Akofena’s tenure, with some collapsing or nearing collapse. It further claimed that concerns were raised over changes to foundational principles of the church and Akofena’s handling of authority.

As a result, the statement said Apostle Kwadwo Safo revoked the mandate granted to his son in 2024 and subsequently removed provisions supporting his leadership from the church’s governing framework.

The family maintained that the late founder later appointed Adwoa Safo as Head of the Family and established a new succession roadmap that excluded Akofena from consideration for leadership of the church.

It stated that since the founder’s death, Adwoa Safo, with the support of her siblings, has continued to serve as the principal representative of the family.

The statement linked Saturday’s shooting incident to a dispute over an alleged installation ceremony intended to declare Akofena leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission.

According to the family, Akofena, together with some church elders, sought to organise a private installation ceremony despite what it described as the late founder’s clear succession directives.

The family said two church members subsequently sought a court injunction to restrain the ceremony and efforts were made to serve the court documents on Akofena.

It alleged that on the morning of June 21, 2026, Adwoa Safo personally attempted to serve the court processes on her younger brother when he allegedly discharged a firearm multiple times in her direction and instructed others at the scene to open fire on her vehicle.

The matter, the statement added, has since been reported to law enforcement authorities for investigation.

Meanwhile, the family has distanced itself from any claim by Akofena to the leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission, insisting that it does not recognise any installation or assumption of authority that contradicts the wishes of the late founder.

It further cautioned the public against engaging in any transactions or dealings purportedly undertaken by Akofena on behalf of the Kristo Asafo Mission or the Kwadwo Safo Family.

“The public is advised to exercise caution in any dealings with Mr. Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena that purport to represent the interests, assets, leadership or affairs of the Kristo Asafo Mission or the Kwadwo Safo Family,” the statement said.

The family called on members of the church and the general public to remain calm and allow state institutions to investigate the matter and address all issues arising from the dispute in accordance with the law.

Police are yet to officially comment on the allegations contained in the statement.
