Six persons, including a traditional priest at Osu, have been arraigned before the Dansoman Circuit Court for allegedly causing harm and damage to property during a disturbance at the Osu Chief’s Palace.
The accused persons are Ezekial Lutherdrodt, a traditional priest; Samuel Baffoe, a painter; Benjamin Adamah, a bouncer; Kudjoe Abusah, a self-employed person; Tettey Adamah, a security officer and Tawfiq Mohammed, a mason.
They appeared before the court presided over by Her Honour Nancy TeikoSearyoh and were granted bail in the sum of GH¢70,000 each with two sureties.
The court ordered that one of the sureties for each accused person must justify the bail with a title deed equivalent to the bail amount.
The case has been adjourned to August 24, 2026, for mention. The prosecution was also directed to file all disclosures and serve them on the accused persons ahead of the Case Management Conference (CMC).
The accused persons have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime contrary to Section 23 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), causing harm contrary to Section 69 of Act 29, and causing unlawful damage.
According to the prosecution, the complainants, Theodore Dodoo, a Teacher and Freeman KwekuAvor, a Goldsmith, were among elders gathered at the Osu Chief’s Palace on August 26, 2025, to perform annual traditional rites during the sprinkling of “Kpokpoe.”
The prosecution led by Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder said that at about 12:30 p.m., the accused persons, together with others opposed to the ceremony, arrived at the palace. Shortly after their arrival, a confrontation allegedly broke out, resulting in a scuffle.
The prosecution further alleged that the accused persons and their accomplices attacked the complainants and others who had assembled for the ritual. During the incident, Theodore Dodoo and Freeman KwekuAvor reportedly sustained injuries and were rushed to hospital for treatment.
The court heard that several items at the palace, including traditional food prepared for the ceremony, were destroyed.The accused persons are also alleged to have smashed the windows of a Nissan pickup vehicle parked within the palace premises.
Following the incident, a formal complaint was lodged with the police. The injured complainants were issued with police medical report forms, which were duly endorsed after treatment.
The prosecution said the accused persons were subsequently arrested, but denied the allegations in their respective caution statements during investigations.After completing investigations, the police charged the six accused persons and brought them before the court to answer the charges.
The matter is expected to continue on August 24, 2026.
