NMTC Tepa Inaugurates Stakeholders Association …Admits 611 Students for 2025/2026

The Tepa Nursing and Midwifery Training College (NMTC) has inaugurated the Stakeholders Association of the College to foster stronger collaboration among all partners and support the growth of the institution.

The inauguration coincided with the 17th Matriculation Ceremony, following the admission of 611 out of 3,468 who applied for admission into the school this academic year.

Mr. Sebil William, Principal of the College, disclosed that 295 were admitted for the Registered General Nursing programme, 170 into the Registered Midwifery programme and 146 into the Nurse Assistant Clinical (NAC) programme.

He disclosed that the college recorded remarkable academic performance in the 2025 KNUST terminal examinations, as 140 of the 153 Registered Midwifery passed with a pass rate of 91.5% and obtained 14 distinctions while 189 out of 199 candidates passed with a pass rate of 94.9% with a pass rate of 94.9%.

He revealed that in the recent Nursing and Midwifery Council Licensing Examination, the college recorded: 76% pass rate for NAC, 67% for RGN and 69% for RM.

“While we are grateful for these achievements, we recognise that there is room for improvement. Our vision is not merely to pass examinations, but to be one of the leading nursing and midwifery training institutions in Ghana”, he noted.

The Principal urged first-year students to embrace discipline and purpose noting that NMTC Tepa is a product of discipline, determination, prayer and hard work and believes in excellence.  He advised the students to avoid distractions that destroy destinies, choose their friends wisely, respect their tutors and obey the rules and regulations of the college.

The Principal also encouraged them to use social media responsibly, attend lectures faithfully, read beyond examinations and build themselves spiritually, mentally and emotionally.

He reminded them that they are not merely being trained to pass examinations, but being prepared to change lives and communities, emphasising that the story of NMTC Tepa, is one of vision, perseverance, sacrifice and determination.

The Principal stated that the College urgently requires a perimeter fence wall to improve security and protect institutional property.

He also cited the need for a power plant, as reliable electricity remains essential for effective teaching, learning, administration and student accommodation as well as adequate and sustainable water supply for both academic and residential activities.

He called on stakeholders and the government to support the college in addressing these challenges as the increasing student population places enormous pressure on available accommodation facilities and staff bungalows.

Mr. Ernest Brogya Genfi, Deputy Defence Minister, the Guest of Honour assured the College that he would engage the GETFund Administrator to ensure accommodation challenges arising from the school’s expansion are solved to accommodate extra students.

He announced that the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, also known as “Mahama Care” accrued GH¢1.6 million last year from one month’s salary contribution by all government appointees to  offer great relief to persons suffering from chronic and non-communicable diseases.

He said initiatives such as the CHPS Compounds programme have been scaled up to bring healthcare closer to communities.

He disclosed that every District, Municipal and Metropolitan Assembly (MMDA) has been tasked by the government to use part of its share of the Common Fund towards the construction of CHPS compounds and a number of healthcare facilities.

According to him, the introduction of Free Primary Healthcare has brought relief to many communities because no individual is expected to pay for primary healthcare services, with or without National Health Insurance. He noted that through government investment in equipment and technology, many diagnostic equipment and medical supplies have been supplied to support the primary healthcare programme.

He said the government has also started putting in measures to recruit and absorb unemployed nurses in batches beginning this year adding that it is also exploring opportunities for the export of nurses and other healthcare professionals to countries that need their services.

He revealed that Agreements have been entered into with nations like Barbados, Jamaica and others to send Ghanaian nurses to serve there.

He indicated that currently, discussions are ongoing with the United States of America (USA) to send clinical health nurses there  and that the first and second batches have arrived in their respective countries, while recruitment for the third batch has been advertised, assuring graduates of employment opportunities sooner or later.

Nana Adusei Atwerewaah Ampem, Tepamanhene, commended the present and past Principals of the school, for their roles that brought the institution into the limelight.

He expressed gratitude to Mr. Addai Amankwah, Board Chairman Tepa Nursing Midwifery training college the former District Chief Executive (DCE) for improving the school infrastructure including the administration block and Dormitory.

Mr. Albert Opoku, the immediate past Principal of the College expressed gratitude to the Tepamanhene, the Ministry of Health, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana, Regional and District Health Directors (GTEC), Affiliate Institutions, advisory boards and all stakeholders for their supervisory roles and support and commitment to Nursing and Midwifery education that continues to shape the future of healthcare delivery in Ghana

Mr. Opoku paid glowing tribute to the past Principals named as Mrs. Victoria Amoah, Mrs Mabel Adu Mensah, Mrs Margaret Acquah and Mr Albert Opoku, for their vision, dedication and sacrifice and commitment, which laid the strong foundation of the College.

Mr, Opoku was honoured for his exemplary leadership, visionary administration and dedicated services during his 18-month tenure as the principal of the college.

Some of Mr. Opoku’s achievements were mentioned as the initiation and construction of a modern storey building, enhancement of the College’s 70-capacity Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centre with 150 computers, the construction of the Multipurpose Hall at Anyinasusu to support academic social and community activities, the acquisition of a residential property to support accommodation needs and the construction of a modern 350 bed capacity students’ hostel.

It is also on record that Mr. Opoku collaborated with Tukuba University in Japan in pursuit of excellence.
