The Ghana Police Service has announced the foiling of a planned robbery attack and the recovery of weapons linked to a notorious robbery syndicate operating in parts of the country.

According to a statement posted on the Police Service’s official X account, the operation was carried out jointly by the Surveillance Unit of the National Operations Department and the Ashanti North Regional Police Command.

The police said intelligence-led operations on June 2, 2026, led officers to Kukuom in the Ahafo Region, where they moved to arrest Ali Mohammed, 23, who was wanted in connection with several armed robbery incidents.

The suspect was being sought over the shooting and murder of Dominic Frimpong on the Akyiresu–Kwame Dwomo Sreso road in the Ahafo Region on April 12, 2026.

Police further indicated that Mohammed was also wanted in connection with two separate robbery attacks at Bosomkyekye on the Mampong–Ejura road in July 2025 and February 2026. One of the attacks reportedly resulted in the death of a driver’s mate.

During the operation, the suspect allegedly opened fire on the police with an AK-47 rifle. The officers returned fire and overpowered him. He sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to the Goaso Government Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A search conducted after the operation led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, a pump-action gun, two AK-47 magazines, nine rounds of ammunition, three mobile phones, a motorbike ignition key, a black nose mask, four talismans and a sack.

The Police Service said investigations are continuing to track down other members of the robbery syndicate. The suspects being pursued include Omar Chad, Dauda Tahidu, Suley and other accomplices currently on the run.

Police have assured the public that efforts are underway to bring all members of the gang to justice.
