The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a truck driver and intercepted a large consignment of suspected narcotic substances during an operation along the Tema-Ada road.

The suspect, identified as Bismark Kpormeno, was arrested on Sunday, May 31, 2026, after officers of the Tema Highway Patrol Unit intercepted a Hyundai Mighty II container truck he was driving.

According to a statement issued by the Ghana Police Service on its X platform, the suspect allegedly failed to stop when signaled by police officers and attempted to evade arrest. A pursuit ensued, leading to his arrest at Bondase.

A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered twelve sacks and eighty parcels of compressed plant materials suspected to be Indian hemp, concealed inside a container and wrapped with sellotape.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspected narcotic substance was loaded at Kpeve in the Volta Region and was being transported to Ada at the time of the interception.

The police have impounded the truck and the suspected drugs as exhibits, while the suspect remains in custody assisting with investigations.

The Tema Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and other forms of criminal activity. It also appealed to the public to support law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities within their communities.

Police said investigations are ongoing.
