The Central East Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) has arrested 13 drivers for the unauthorised use of sirens and emergency lights during a special enforcement exercise on the Kasoa-Winneba Highway.

The operation, conducted by the MTTD Task Force at Budumburam on May 30, 2026, forms part of ongoing efforts to enforce road traffic regulations and promote discipline among motorists.

According to the police, the drivers were found using sirens and emergency lamps without the necessary authorisation, in violation of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180).

The offenders were educated on Regulations 65 and 74 of the law, which govern the use of emergency warning devices on vehicles. Following the exercise, the drivers were processed in accordance with the law.

As part of the enforcement action, officers removed the unauthorised sirens and emergency lamps from the vehicles. The drivers were also issued warning letters and cautioned against engaging in the practice in the future.

The Central East Regional Police Command said the exercise underscores its commitment to ensuring compliance with road traffic regulations and maintaining order and safety on the nation’s roads.

The Command further urged motorists to adhere strictly to traffic laws and avoid the unlawful use of sirens and emergency lights, which are reserved for authorised emergency and security services.
