Tension is mounting at the Bosomtwe Health Insurance Secretariat, as supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Bosomtwe District of Ashanti region, have staged a demonstration against the appointment of a known NPP member as the District Manager of the Bosomtwe Health Insurance.

The protest, last Friday, February 27, 2026 culminated in the closure of the District Health Insurance Scheme office at Kuntanase, the district capital.

Though the closure was brief, following the swift intervention of National security operatives, the Regional NHIS Manager and the local Police Commander, the protest is not yet over.

The Chronicle learnt that during the electioneering campaign, the party promised supporters with the management of social intervention policies, such as the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), School Feeding Programme and the National Disaster Management Organisation, at the district level.

The party has reportedly redeemed such promises at the NADMO office and School Feeding programme but left out the NHIS for a non NDC member.

Mr. Aziz, the Bosomtwe Constituency Organiser, told The Chronicle that it came as a surprise that one Alex Mensah, a known NPP branch Chairman at Jachie, has been appointed to head the NHIS office as District Manager.

Aziz, who is also the District NADMO Director said that until the campaign promise is fulfilled, the NHIS Manager’s office would remain under lock and key.

He explained that last Friday’s demonstration is not meant to disrupt the operations of the health facility, but to prevail upon the party and government to do the needful.

The Constituency Organiser said he cannot fathom why somebody from the other political divide who campaigned against the NDC should reap what he has not sowed and assume a position under the NDC government.
