Night driving on the Ashaiman dual carriage way, which stretches from the Adjei Kojo Under-Pass to the Timber Market roundabout, has been improved with the installation of streetlights.
This development, coming after ten years, has further improved security at the night market for traders and commuters alike.
Kaketo, Washing Bay, Fitter Line, Main Station, Rino and Ashaiman Traffic, all areas along the about 3.5km stretch, used to be frightening spots for pedestrians or passengers who alight from commercial vehicles.
Most users of the road either lose their mobile phones or bags to speeding motorbike riders, most of whom carried knives to attack their victims who attempted to resist them.
The latest development has brought a new life to most traders who sell on the pavements of the roads at night.
Furthermore, passengers who arrive in the municipality late in the night are not scared to walk to the nearest spot to board ‘okada’ or taxi to their destinations.
The illumination of the highway, Freeman Tsekpo, the Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), explained was a result of the hard work of the Assembly members, whose un-relenting push got the Regional Minister and government to respond to their request.
He promised regular maintenance of the lights to keep the highway illuminated, not only to improve security but boost night business, especially when Ashaiman has developed to become a vibrant business hub.
