The 7th Edition of the Obuasi Trade Show has opened with the observation that it has impacted lives and transformed the economy of the mining town.

Opening the Trade Show, the Community Relations Manager of AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) Obuasi Mine, Mr. Edmund Oduro Agyei, said over 200 Exhibitors have showcased items and that data continues to testify to the growing impact the initiative has had over the years.

He explained that the support the company is giving in the organisation of the Trade Show is a deliberate attempt to make Obuasi a business hub, so that in the unlikely event that gold deposit is exhausted, life will still go on.

Mr. Oduro Agyei said Kumasi, Winneba and other places have existed and blossomed all these years, even though gold does not exist in those areas relying mostly on business.

“Today we gather here to celebrate the remarkable achievement of the Trade Show, which continues to act as catalyst for economic development and a platform for empowerment, enabling indigenes to remain economically viable even beyond the life of the Mine,” he said.

Mr. Aboagye Ohene Adu, Chairman of the Trade Show Consortium, said over a thousand people have benefitted from the Trade Show since it was established seven years ago.

He encouraged those who wish to become part of the Trade Show to feel free to register and join to enjoy the goodies associated with it.

Mrs. Diana Amma Gyamfi, Ashanti Regional Officer, Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry noted that the Obuasi Trade Show reflected Ghana’s growing commitment to enterprise development, value addition and market expansion.

She commended the organisers and partners of the programme for creating the opportunity to promote trade, Agribusiness, industry, culture and investment.

Mr. Ebenezer Tei, Business Development Manager, Mining Tools Ghana Limited on behalf of the sponsors of the event, called for more companies to come on board to support future Trade Shows to make Obuasi a major business centre.

The Benkumhene of Odumase, Kwantepena Kwamoa Bosompem, who represented the Adansihene remarked that unlike the old AGA, the present administration of the Mine was a blessing to Adansiman for the support being given to people in the Mine’s catchment area.
