About 500 women in the Ahafo Ano South West Constituency have participated in a free health screening exercise to mark this year’s International Day of Rural Women last Sunday, October 15, 2023.

The UN-instituted day for the celebration and recognition of the achievements of rural women this year was themed: “Rural Women Cultivating Good Food for All”.

The exercise was organised by Prof. Peter Twumasi, Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), and a parliamentary aspirant of the Ahafo Ano South West constituency at Abodease.

The eyes of the women were screened and supplied with lenses where necessary, and also for the Hepatitis B virus. There were tests for breast cancer and education, blood pressure and diabetes and general health screening and health education.

The occasion was also marked with a training programme for the production of domestic/household chemicals from agro-waste such as soap making and body creams, among others.

Agriculture extension officers also provided extension training services for the rural women to enhance their productivity and quality of life.

The women farmers recounted their achievements and also shared their challenges and sought to appeal for more support.
