Kumasi Asante Kotoko midfielder Richmond Lamptey has been named in the Black Stars provisional squad for the 2023 AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire.
Lamptey is part of an 11 man unit drafted into the 55 man provisional squad from the Ghana Premier League. Medeama Sporting Club’s Jonathan Sowah, Abdul Fatawu Hamidu, Felix Kyei, Abdulai Nurudeen and Derrick Fordjour lead the Ghana Premier League contingent in the squad.
The Porcupine Warriors captain’s name has been heavily linked to the Black Stars over the past weeks after a brilliant run of games in the Ghana Premier League.
Registering four assists in the league at the time of writing, Lamptey has played a key role in Kotoko’s resurgence after a poor start to the 2023-2024 season.
Lamptey’s influential play has coincided with Kotoko’s four game winning run; Kotoko missed out on bagging a fifth straight win in all competitions after drawing goalless with Accra Great Olympics.
Ghana has been drawn in Group B at the 2023 AFCON group stage with Egypt, Cape Verde and Mozambique.
