The Circuit Court in Accra, presided over by His Honour Kwabena Kodua Obiri-Yeboah, has granted bail to three persons accused of breaking into a mobile money shop at Nungua Barrier and stealing a metal safe containing GH¢72,650.

The accused persons – Richard Konotey, alias Richard Konotey Korley, 34; Mohammed Obuor, alias Mohammed Ganui Obuor, 30; and David Degbor, alias David Agbanyo, 40 – have each been granted bail in the sum of GH¢150,000 with two sureties.

They are alleged to have committed the offences on August 22, 2026 at Nungua Barrier in the Greater Accra Region.

The three accused pleaded not guilty to eight charges, including conspiracy to cause unlawful damage, causing unlawful damage, conspiracy to commit unlawful entry, unlawful entry, conspiracy to steal, stealing, conspiracy to possess instruments intended for unlawful entry and possession of such instruments.

The case has been adjourned to November 11, 2026.

According to the prosecution, the complainant, Ebenezer Darko Densu, is a marketer who also operates a mobile money business at Nungua Barrier.

The prosecution said that at about 2:00 a.m. on August 22, the accused allegedly went to the complainant’s mobile money shop on two motorbikes armed with implements, including a pinch bar and hammers.

They allegedly broke the locks and entered the shop before carrying away a metal money safe containing GH¢72,650 and four mobile phones. The prosecution further alleged that the accused proceeded to a bar at Sakumono Beach, where they broke open the safe and removed the money.

Police intelligence subsequently led officers to the bar, where the three accused were allegedly found with two damaged metal safes.

The prosecution said the GH¢72,650 was recovered after it had allegedly been buried in the uncemented ground of a kiosk.

Other items allegedly recovered included two Royal Jungle motorbikes, helmets, a pinch bar, hammers, a baseball bat, scissors, a cutter, mobile phones, a laptop, a tablet, a power bank, wristwatches and other items suspected to have been stolen.

The prosecution also said CCTV footage retrieved during investigations showed the three accused allegedly arriving at the complainant’s shop around 2:00 a.m., breaking the lock and carrying away the safe on a motorbike.

It said the accused persons, in their respective cautioned statements, admitted the offences and allegedly led police to the complainant’s shop, where they demonstrated how the operation was carried out.

Police investigations further revealed that the three accused persons had previous encounters with the law.

The prosecution said Konotey had previously been convicted and served a 15-year sentence for robbery at Nsawam Prison, completing his sentence in 2025.

It also alleged that he is currently on bail in another robbery case pending judgment before Circuit Court One in Accra.

Obuor, according to the prosecution, had also previously been granted bail in a stealing case before the Ashaiman District Court.

Degbor was alleged to have been convicted and sentenced to 40 years for robbery by the Accra High Court in 2014, but was acquitted on appeal in 2022.

The prosecution said the complainant later identified one of the damaged safes and the GH¢72,650 as his property, while the four mobile phones allegedly stolen from his shop had not been recovered.

The three accused persons were subsequently charged and arraigned before the Circuit Court.
