The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says the Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, is one of the best appointments he has made.
According to the President, who promoted Dr. Adutwum from a deputy education minister to his current substantive position, his appointee has worked to his satisfaction and praised him as one of the best.
President Akufo-Addo said this on Thursday, October 5, 2023 when he was addressing this year’s Global Teacher Prize held in Takoradi, Western Region.
In his address, President Akufo-Addo mentioned that information had reached him about some teachers who were yet to receive their laptops, under the government’s ‘one teacher, one laptop’ initiative.
He told the gathering of teachers, educationists, traditional rulers and other stakeholders in education that he had instructed the minister to ensure the deficit was cleared, adding that he was confident the minister would do just that.
“So, I have tasked the Minister for Education personally to ensure that those few teachers yet to receive their laptops join the overwhelming majority, who have received theirs. I have no doubt that he will do so because the Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum is one of the best appointments I have made as President,” he said to a resounding applause.
From a deputy to the substantive minister, the Bosome-Freho Member of Parliament, Dr. Osei Adutwumhas led several initiatives under the education sector, particularly the double track system, which ensured that a lot more students had access to the Senior High School.
INVESTMENT PARAMOUNT
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, credited with the restoration of the nurses and teacher trainee allowances, the President remarked that his government believed that investing in teachers was paramount “to ensuring quality education for Ghanaians.”
He explained that the government initiated the comprehensive national teacher policy aimed at enhancing the skill welfare and overall effectiveness of educators.
According to the ruling NPP government, through the Ghana Accountability for Learning Outcome Project (GALOP), some 75,000 people have been trained in teaching and learning in the digital age.
In addition, professional learning community programs, as well as continuous professional development base in schools to sharpen the skills of teachers, have been implemented through the standard base curricula.
COMMENDATION
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister for Education, on the other hand, was full of praise for the President for his commitment and interest in the development of education in the country.
He assured the President of his readiness to continue working very hard towards the attainment of the best education for the nation, since education is the driving force behind the development of every country.
The Minister for Education appealed to all stakeholders in the education space to continue working hard towards the transformation of the country through education.
Dr. Adutwum stated that, “we are not just providing education for the nation’s youth, but we are positioning the nation to become a giant in various facets with the training of people with critical thinking skills and knowledge that is required towards the development of the nation’s economy.
