A state-of- the art facility to serve as Library and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) center has been commissioned and handed over to Sekondi College (SEKCO) in the Western region.
The ultramodern educational facility is named after the late Philip Eiwulley-Armah, an old student of the school.
Philip, born in August 1965, completed both his primary and middle school education at Half Assinand continued to Sekondi College who he pursued both “O” and “A” Level.
During his final year at SEKCO, he contested for the position of senior prefect, which he won. During his time in the school he earned the nickname “Ahojey.”
Considering his love for the school, the Library and ICT center was constructed in his memory by his widow, Margaret Armah and his two children-Nicholas Agyevi-Armah and Alexis Selassie Eiwulley-Armah. The family said this was done as gratitude to the school’s role in educatingthe late Philip Eiwulley-Armah.
The center has an auditorium, Henry E. Appiah Dattey Student Technology Center and Jesse Kwabena Sarpong Learning Commons.
The PhilipEiwulley-Armah Center for Academic Excellence will also roll out a scholarship scheme for academically outstanding students.
Madam MargaretEiwulley-Armah, the widow, said her late husband was a great education advocate who dedicated his life to uplifting others.
She noted that his legacy could be measured by his humanitarian impact, the love he gave and the lives he touched.She then expressed her gratitude to the benefactors who assisted in making the project come to fruition.
The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, expressed his sincere appreciation to the family for their bold initiative to help enhance teaching and learning in the school.
The Headmistress of Sekondi College, Guddy Ampomah Kermah, while thanking the Eiwulley-Armah family for the great initiative, promised that the facility would be put to good use and maintained.
