The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has assured Ghanaians of the commitment of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to steering Ghana forward.
Thus, he urged eligible voters to vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the NPP come December 7, 2024 saying that the nation will not return to a past marked by stagnation and non-performance.
Though he did not mention whom he referred to as retrogressive, the narration fit the presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, as he is the only candidate seeking a comeback, after serving just a term in office and was voted out.
Speaking to a gathering at Borteyman, in Accra, on Monday, August 26, 2024 to commission the 5.80km School Junction-Motorway project, the President highlighted the government’s accomplishments in infrastructure development.
He assured the public that the future remains promising, especially with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the flagbearer of the ruling NPP.
“We’ll build roads and together, we’ll build an even greater and brighter Ghana,” President Akufo-Addo declared.
“We’re going forward; we’re not going back. We’re not going back to the era of stagnation and non-performance. We are going forward with Bawumia to a better, more inclusive and more prosperous Ghana,” he added.
A CALL FOR SUPPORT
With the 2024 elections on the horizon, President Akufo-Addo took the opportunity to ask for continued support from Ghanaians, highlighting the importance of staying the course and building on the progress made over the past few years.
“In a few months, we will once again stand before you seeking your mandate to continue this transformative journey.
“We have come a long way, but there is still much work to be done. Together, we can achieve even greater heights for our beloved country,” he said.
“Let the success of this project, along with the numerous other achievements we have delivered, serve as a reminder of what we can accomplish together when you place your trust in us,” he stated.
The President’s message was clear: Ghana is moving forward and with the support of the people, the nation can achieve a future of prosperity and inclusivity for all.
PILLAR OF PROGRESS
The President emphasised the significance of infrastructure as a foundation for national development.
He outlined his administration’s efforts to improve the country’s road network, describing it as a collective achievement that must be treated with care to ensure its longevity.
“This road is a collective achievement for our nation, and we must treat it as such—an asset that we must protect with utmost care to ensure its longevity,” Akufo-Addo stated.
“Infrastructure is a key driver of economic growth, and our commitment to improving Ghana’s infrastructure is unwavering.”
Among the notable projects completed under Akufo-Addo’s leadership that he mentioned are the construction of the four-tier Pokuase interchange, the rehabilitation of key roads in Greater Accra and the upgrading of various Zongo areas.
The President also mentioned the progress made on other landmark projects, such as the Tema Motorway expansion and the Kasoa-Winneba road project, both of which are expected to boost economic activity and improve the quality of life for Ghanaians.
ECONOMIC CHALLENGES
Acknowledging the economic challenges that Ghana has faced in recent years, particularly due to the global economic downturn and the implementation of the debt exchange programme, President Akufo-Addo explained that some key development projects had to be temporarily suspended.
However, he assured the public that negotiations have been successfully concluded and contractors will soon return to the sites to resume work on these critical initiatives.
