The Wenchi Municipal Assembly has distributed beehive boxes and accessories to beekeepers and other interested farmers in the Municipality.
The beneficiaries include the Association of Beekeepers & Honey Producers and individual farmers drawn from the various communities in the Municipality.
The distribution of the 100 beehive boxes with auxiliaries was a fulfillment of the Assembly’s policy initiatives introduced by the Municipal Chief Executive, Alexander Obour Damoah, announced in his sessional address to the 4th Session of the 8th Assembly at its First General Meeting to procure and distribute 1,200 beehive boxes and auxiliaries to farmers in the Municipality.
The initiative formed part of the assembly’s local economic development programmes to improve the living standards of the people.
The Chairman of the Agriculture Sub-Committee of the Assembly, Alhaji Suwari Ibrahim Abdul-Rahman, who spoke on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive, reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to boost local economic development in the Municipality by creating the enabling environment and providing the needed support to the local people with the requisite tools and technical know-how.
He admonished the beneficiaries to make use of the equipment given them to achieve the needed results and value for money.
He also advised the beekeepers to revert to the Agric department for further guidance.
The beneficiary farmers were given orientation and training on beekeeping and honey harvesting to gain the requisite skills for the use of the equipment given them.
In an address delivered on his behalf, the Municipal Agric Officer, Emmanuel Afful, assured of the readiness of the Agric team to provide the needed technical support and continuous training to the beneficiary farmers.
