Ghana Football Association Executive Council member Kwesi Appiah has called for support for Black Stars coach Chris Hughton.
Hughton has faced criticism following the team’s disappointing performance in recent international friendlies in the United States.
The Black Stars suffered a 2-0 defeat and a resounding 4-0 loss to the USA. In both matches, the team displayed a lacklustre performance with poor defending and an attack that lacked firepower, managing just two shots on target in 180 minutes.
Hughton’s tactics have been questioned, and some believe he may not be the right person for the job, calling for his removal before the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, scheduled for January 2024.
Appiah, a former Ghana coach, is backing Hughton and has urged Ghanaians to do the same. He stated on Asempa FM, “As of now, let us wait for the report from the friendly games.”
“But at the moment, Chris Hughton is the head coach, and we must support him.”
“Let us hope in the upcoming games, there will be some improvement in the team’s performance, and then we can assess him properly,” he added.
Appiah also holds positions as the coach of Sudan and the technical director of Asante Kotoko.
