The University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD), located in Somanya, the capital of Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region, has received computers and accessories from Kabaka Foundation Ghana.
The Foundation established by Nana Owiredu Wadie (I), Nkosuohene of Kwahu Nkwatia donated 20 HP i5 desktop computers with accessories and Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) batteries aimed to enhance the university’s computing resources.
The Executive Director of Kabaka Foundation Mr. Henry Larbi stated that the donation supports the Foundation’s commitment to UN SDG Goal 4 – Quality Education as well as other SDG goals.
Mr. Larbi hinted that apart from the donation, the Foundation has undertaken other projects like educational infrastructure, a modern Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, a court complex, a police station, water system construction, support for vulnerable groups and scholarships for underprivileged students.
The donation was jointly received by the Vice Chancellor of UESD Prof. Eric Nyarko-Sampson, Registrar Mrs. Mary Abena Agyepong and other senior staff.
Prof. Nyarko-Sampson expressed gratitude for the timely support, noting that UESD being a relatively young institution, faces financial and logistical challenges.
He mentioned that the foundation is the first of over 50 private institutions approached for assistance, hence calling for collaborations with organizations in areas such as environment, nature conservation, sanitation, and water resources.
The university is dedicated to community development and achieving SDGs, with initiatives like community-based experiential learning, where students engage with communities to identify and address local issues.
