A driver and Okada rider have been processed for court due to their alleged involved in various crimes, including conspiracy to commit a crime and robbery.
The suspects, Kofi Kata (driver) and Jacob Ativor (Okada rider), are residents of Klagon and Akatsi in the Volta Region. The two were arrested by the Denu Police on suspicion of attempting to sell a stolen car.
The suspects were further rearrested by the Baatsonaa Police in the Greater Accra Region, since the car was believed to have been stolen from Accra.
On June 16, 2022, at about 12:00am, Michael Ofori was in charge of a Toyota Vitz taxi cab with registration number GC 6659-21 and picked unidentified passengers from Ecobank, Spintex, to Shell Signboard.
Upon reaching a section of the road near Zenith Bank, Jacob asked the taxi driver to stop for them to alight.
However, as soon as Michael stopped, they attacked him and tied his neck with nylon rope against the headrest of the car seat in an attempt to strangulate him.
The suspects managed to push him out and drove off with the car, which contained the complainant’s Itel phone valued at GH¢200.00, and an unspecified amount of money being his daily sales.
Michael reported the robbery to the police, who revealed that in recent times they had been receiving similar complaints of robbers always strangling drivers with a nylon rope and succeeding in snatching their cars within Baatsonaa and its environs.
Luckily, on June 17, 2022, the Denu Police Command intercepted the said vehicle, which was being offered for sale and arrested the suspects.
The Baatsonaa Police was informed and the suspects were re-arrested and brought to Baatsonaa for further investigation on June 21, 2022.
During interrogation the suspects mentioned another person who lived at Aflao as the one who gave the vehicle to them to meet a buyer at Denu.
The police said the case was still under investigation.
