Residents of Baniekrom in the Ahafo Ano South West District of the Ashanti Region were left in a state of shock and agony after a 28-year-old chainsaw operator was crushed to death by a falling tree.
Identified as Foster, aka Oseikrom, his body has since been retrieved from the forest by the police and deposited at a morgue at Kunsu.
In an interaction with a resident of Baniekrom, Emmanuel Agyenim Atakora, he explained to The Chronicle that the said incident reportedly occurred last Saturday afternoon at about 14:00 hrs.
According to Emmanuel Atakora, Oseikrom, together with his pal called Akwasi, both of whom are chainsaw operators, went to the forest at Baniekrom to fell trees.
He further said that during their operation, Akwasi was due to fell a tree which was somewhat directed at the position of Oseikrom.
He continued that sensing danger, the deceased told his buddy that he should change the direction where the tree would fall since it was directed at his location.
But before one could say jack, the tree fell in the direction of his friend (Oseikrom) killing him instantly.
Emmanuel Agyenim Atakora indicated to The Chronicle that upon the death of Oseikrom, he sadly went to the police station to report the incident, upon which he was arrested.
