A respected police officer, Felix Atistogbui, who served at the Suhum Municipal Police Command in the Eastern Region, tragically passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 after collapsing during a workout session at the gym.
According to eyewitness and family reports, Officer Atistogbui, known for his imposing physique and dedication to fitness, left home around 5:00 pm to engage in his regular exercise routine.
However, what began as a normal day ended in heartbreak, when the officer reportedly became dizzy and collapsed shortly after arriving at the gym.
His father recounted the events to local media, stating that “Yesterday around 5:00 pm he told me he was going to the gym. But at about 5:30 pm he called me saying that he was feeling dizzy and had fallen down, so I should come and take him to the house.
“I rushed to the place and sent him to the hospital, but after 20 minutes, the doctor told me he had passed away.”
Despite the swift response and efforts to save his life, Officer Atistogbui was pronounced dead, minutes after being admitted to the hospital.
His body has since been deposited at the morgue for a full autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Although the precise cause of death will only be confirmed after the autopsy, medical experts suggest several possibilities that may have led to the officer’s untimely demise include cardiac arrest or heart attack, dehydration and heat exhaustion, electrolyte Imbalance and undiagnosed medical condition.

Many locals are grieving his sudden death, describing him as more than just a law enforcer because the late Officer Felix Atistogbui who was a well-known figure in Suhum, cherished by residents for his professionalism, kindness and approachability was a friend and a role model in the community.
The police service and family have requested privacy as they await the autopsy result. Meanwhile, tributes have begun pouring in from colleagues, friends and residents who are deeply saddened by the loss.
This incident is a stark reminder that even those who appear healthy and fit may have underlying health vulnerabilities and, therefore, it emphasises the importance of regular medical checkups, especially for those engaged in high-intensity physical activity.
