Six miners have been confirmed dead following the collapse of an illegal mining pit in Kasotie, a community in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region. The incident occurred late Wednesday night, trapping several miners underground.

Rescue efforts, led by the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), in partnership with emergency services and local volunteers, began shortly after the collapse. So far, six bodies have been recovered from the debris, while four others were pulled out alive and rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Confirming the incident to the media, Samuel Ayine, the Assembly Member for the Kasotie Electoral Area, expressed concern that more miners may still be trapped underground. He acknowledged the efforts of the rescue teams and called for urgent support to speed up the operation. However, the rescue operation has faced serious challenges, particularly from water gushing from underground sources, which continues to slow progress and pose risks to the rescue teams.Efforts remain ongoing as authorities and community members work tirelessly to locate any remaining victims.
